Data Ownership & Privacy Policy

Microelectronic Technologies Pty Ltd (ABN 56 057 271 440), trading as MeT, is committed to protecting the privacy and data rights of all Cumulus IoT customers. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect data generated through the Cumulus IoT platform, and clearly sets out who owns that data.

1. Data Ownership
Your Data Belongs to you.

All operational data generated by your deployed Cumulus devices — including GPS and location data, sensor readings, asset monitoring data, environmental measurements, and device telemetry — is owned by you, the customer. Microelectronic Technologies does not claim any ownership of this data.

We will not use, analyse, sell, license or share your operational data for any commercial purpose without your explicit written consent.

2. Data Storage and Security

MeT will only access your Cumulus device data in the following limited circumstances:

  • To deliver contracted services, including platform connectivity and cloud dashboard functionality
  • To provide technical support when requested by you
  • To diagnose and resolve device or connectivity issues
  • Where required by Australian law

We do not use customer operational data for marketing, product development, benchmarking or any other internal purpose without your consent.

3. Data Storage and Security

Cumulus device data is transmitted and stored securely using industry-standard encryption. Where the optional Cumulus cloud dashboard is used, data is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, which may be located outside Australia including in the United States.

We take reasonable steps to ensure that all third-party infrastructure providers handling your data maintain appropriate security standards consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

4. Data Portability

You have the right to access and export your data at any time. Upon request, we will provide a copy of your operational data in a structured, commonly used format within 30 days.

Upon termination of your Cumulus service agreement, we will:

  • Provide a full export of your data upon request
  • Securely delete MeT’s copies of your operational data within 60 days of termination, unless retention is required by law
  • Confirm deletion in writing upon request

5. Data Retention

We retain customer operational data for the duration of your active service agreement, plus up to 12 months following termination, unless you request earlier deletion.

6. Third-Party Access

We do not sell, rent or trade your data to any third party. Data is only shared with third-party service providers (such as AWS) where necessary to deliver the Cumulus platform, and those providers are contractually bound to appropriate data handling standards.

We will notify you promptly if we are required by law to disclose your data to a government authority or regulator.

7. Custom Data Arrangements

We understand that data requirements vary across industries and deployments. If you have specific requirements regarding data sovereignty, storage location, retention periods, or handling procedures — for example, requirements relating to on-farm data or commercially sensitive operational data — please contact us to discuss a tailored data agreement.

8. Online Activity – Cookies

9. Notifiable Data Breaches

In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, MeT will comply with its obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme and will notify affected customers as soon as practicable.
